Three Classes, Three Placings On Final Day At Arezzo

Cian started off Sunday in the Speed Derby in Arezzo jumping a clear round with PS I Love You to finish in 7th place.

"The mare has never jumped a bank or a dyke before, and so I didn't go mad - it was a great experience for her which she will come on from," Cian said.

A few hours later Cian stormed to victory in the 1m45 Accumulator aboard Dermot O'Rourke's 'Baloufina'. He said: "The mare's in great form, and the final fence in this class was a 1m60 plank and Baloufina just jumped it for fun."

Finally and perhaps most impressively, Complete jumped the 1m60 Grand Prix for four faults in the first round and as they took back the top 25 per cent into the jump-off he qualified. The pair were clear the second time out, finishing over four seconds faster than the winner. However carrying the four faults from the first round meant they had to settle for 5th.

"Complete feels in top shape. I think I know why I had the fence down in the first round and I think I can rectify that by riding the combination slightly differently the next time," Cian explained.

Good Start At Arezzo

A win in the Welcome Stakes with PS I Love You and a third place with Complete in the 1m55 Grand Prix Qualifier signalled a healthy start to Cian's campaign at Arezzo in Italy this weekend.

He said: "I was happy how Complete performed today in what was a world-class field, and PS I Love You's win yesterday was a great start to the weekend. It confirms to me that the warm-up experience at the Spanish Sunshine Tour was more than worthwhile for both me and the horses."

Cian will remain at Arezzo for the Global Champions' Tour competitions next weekend.

Successes At The Sunshine Tour

Cian took 21 horses and some of his pupils to the Sunshine Tour near Cadiz in Spain during the months of February and March.

In the Small Tour Thomas O'Brien, Joanne Sloan-Allen and Frank Curran all won 1m40 classes. Additionally, Frank Curran was second in the Small Tour Grand Prix Final on the last Sunday of the Tour with a fantastic double clear aboard his father's "Pepp".

Cian had some successes himself, winning a 1m50 class with Splendur, and some top ten places with Complete, Baloufina, Markopoulo and ABC Loreen. Find out more in the Blog section.
