Cooper Double Clear

Cooper jumped a double clear round in Friday's 1.55m in Verona, Italy

Cian second in Hoys Grand Prix

Cian partnered Dual Star, Carolus and Cooper at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham last weekend. All three horses jumped well with Carolus having just one down in Saturday’s 1.55m jump off class. Dual Star was 4th in Friday’s 1.45m speed but Cooper was the star of the weekend. The pair were clear in Thursday’s GP qualifier and on Friday night had just the last fence down.

Sunday’s GP at Hoys is always hotly contested and with Bob Ellis building a serious test there were just three clear in round one - Cian, Billy Twomey and Julien Epaillard. 25% came back for the jump off but Cian and Cooper were first in of the clears and opted for a steady round to put the pressure on. Julien tried a tight turn to fence three but paid the price when knocking it down and Billy produced a sharp clear when last to go with the ever reliable Tinka’s Serenade to clinch victory.

Cian said afterwards, “I’m absolutely delighted with Cooper. He was pure class here tonight. He’s an outstanding horse with a big future."

Strong finish for Karlswood horses at Cavan

  • Saphir winning the 6&7 yr old final in great style

Karlswood Horses finished in the top three in all of the young horse championships at Cavan last weekend. Mark Duffy rides a scopey chestnut gelding for Cian and he was consistent all weekend and placed third in the 4 year old final. Ross was treble clear in the 5 yr old championship with the exciting Hugo and Cian won the 6&7 yr old final with the flashy grey Saphir.

Cooper jumped superbly all week and had an unlucky back rail in the Grand Prix but the outing will set him up well for the Horse of the Year show in Birmingham next week to which Cian will also take Carolus Z and Dual Star.

Schooling the young horses at Ravensdale

  • Hugo at Ravesndale
  • Campino at Ravensdale
  • Carolus Z at Ravensdale

ALL HORSES jumped well for Cian at the weekend's Ravensdale Show in Co. Louth. Cian brought the young horses for a school and was pleased with their performances. Among them were two new 5 year olds, Hugo and Campino, both jumping well.

Cian kicked off the opening leg of the Gain/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix league with new mount Carolus Z, a big, rideable horse with a great character. Carolus Z has been successful internationally prior to his arrival at Karslwood. He was double clear and placed third in the Grand Prix - an encouraging start to the partnership.

CIAN'S horses get back to work this week to get ready for a handful of shows that he plans to do between now and Christmas. Cian has planned a light winter campaign to include some national shows in Ireland, Birmingham Horse Of The Year show, the International Show in Cavan, then Magna Racino, Salzburg and Olympia.

"I feel these shows suit the younger horses I have, and what better way to finish off the season by jumping at the greatest indoor show in the world at London Olympia. I've won classes every time I’ve been there including last year when landing a double and was just pipped for a third victory when I was runner up in Saturday night’s feature class," commented Cian.

“ I have also made some changes in my current team of horses, as I have sold some and bought some new additions. I'm very excited about two new 5 yr olds. Hugo is by Livello out of a Lux mare and Campino is by Canturo out of an Atlantus mare. Both look really exciting and we look forward to producing them for top-level of the sport here at Karlswood. Meanwhile, Team Ireland's Billy Twomey, Conor Swail, Cameron Hanley, Shane Breen and Shane Sweetnam are competing in the Jumping Nations' Cup at the European Championships in Herning, Denmark, and we wish them the best of luck over there.

The show moves on to Millstreet

John Tynan of the Irish Examiner covers the showjumping in Millstreet this week, which features fences from the 2012 London Olympics. But as the writer says, that won't be an advantage for Cian at this year's show.
