First Visit To Leipzig Proves Worthwhile!

Hi, I'm just back at the hotel in Leipzig. It's a hard place to get a flight out of, so I'm coming home in the morning. It was a great show, but tough and long. Some of the classes were very late - for instance the Six Bar didn't finish until 12.30pm on the Saturday night, and the first class on Sunday started at 8.45am, so it was hard on the grooms. But when you get a few good results it makes it all worthwhile.

Splendour placed twice at the 1m45 level, and Complete was fourth in the world ranking Table C class on Saturday. I jumped Rancorrado in the 1m50 on Saturday. I wanted to give him an easy round without pressure, he had a rail down, but I really felt he was rideable and in great form and I was actually quietly confident going in today.

In the past I've had problems getting Rancorrado inside the time allowed, but today I was really chuffed, as we were three-and-a-half seconds inside it. In the jump off he was amazing - you just aim him at these huge jumps against the clock, and he backs off like a good pony, thinking fast, and is careful in a very clever way.

I lost a stirrup after fence 4, and that cost me a little bit of time, but there's no sense in finding fault - third place in a World Cup Grand Prix is something to be proud of, and if I told you I was anything less than ecstatic, I'd be fibbing!

The horses head off to Holland now for a few days to take it easy and then there'll be the build-up towards the end of the week for Amsterdam. It's a three-day show and as my goal is to make it into the Rolex Top 30, a good outing in Amsterdam will certainly help that cause!
